Sure, there are some high-end limited edition models that buck the trend, but it’s rare to find a mainstream vehicle that is an appreciating asset.
According to the latest report on the topic from iSeeCars.com, the average five-year depreciation is now 45.6%.
Some are much worse than that, of course, so we’ve rounded up the 10 US-built vehicles with the biggest drops.
8. FORD EXPEDITION MAX: 60%

The Kentucky-built Expedition Max is Ford’s largest SUV and has an average drop in value of $36,692.
7. LINCOLN NAVIGATOR L: 60.3%

The Lincoln Navigator L is a luxurious take on the Expedition Max with a much larger
$62,069 drop in value due to its higher transaction price.
6. TESLA MODEL Y: 60.4%

The Tesla Model Y was the world’s best selling car in 2023 and 2024, but recent events have led to a $36,225 drop in value on the sale of used examples.
5. CADILLAC ESCALADE: 61%

The Cadillac Escalade may be the brand’s flagship, but the average value of one sinks $53,458 over five years.
4. CADILLAC ESCALADE ESV: 62.9%

The Cadillac Escalade ESV is a stretched model that competes with the Navigator L, but while its depreciation rate is higher, the average drop in actual value is lower at $56,996.
3. TESLA MODEL X: 63.4%

The Tesla Model X‘s falcon wing doors haven’t able to keep its value flying, instead it’s dropped by an average of $53,846.
2. NISSAN LEAF: 64.1%

The Tennesee-built Nissan Leaf was one of the first mass-market electric vehicles when it launched in 2011, but the second generation model has fallen out of favor on the used car market, where values drop by an average of $18,043. Good thing for Nissan it has an all-new Leaf on the way this year.

The Tesla Model S is one of the quickest cars on the planet and its value has dropped very quickly, by an average of $52,165 over five years.
