2025 Ford Maverick Revealed With 40 MPG All-Wheel-Drive Hybrid And Semi-Automated Towing Tech

Good things come to those who wait … and whine.

Ford has unveiled the updated 2025 Maverick which will be offered for the first time with an all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain.

It’s a model that many Maverick fans have been begging the company to make since the compact pickup launched for the 2022 model year.

It features the same 191 hp four-cylinder engine-based hybrid power unit offered in the front-wheel-drive version, but also delivers power from its continuously variable automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The final official fuel economy numbers haven’t been released, but the front-wheel-drive hybrid has a 42 mpg city rating and a 37 mpg combined rating, while Ford said the all-wheel-drive model should hit 40 mpg in the city.

Along with the added grip, the all-wheel-drive hybrid can also be ordered with the Maverick’s 4K towing package, which doubles its towing capacity from 2,000 pounds to 4,000 pounds.

There is a tradeoff, however, as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost-powered Maverick is no longer offered with front wheel drive and is just available with all-wheel-drive. Its power rating has also been reduced from 250 hp to 238 hp, but it’s 277 lb-ft torque rating remains the same.

Starting prices are now $27,890 for the front-wheel-drive hybrid, $28,910 for the all-wheel-drive EcoBoost and $30,090 for the all-wheel-drive hybrid in the entry-level XL trim. The XLT and Lariat trims carry over, while the Tremor off-road package is now its own trim. It only comes with the EcoBoost and has a starting price of $41,390.

The entire lineup gets a mild exterior redesign that features new headlights and a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system display replaces the old eight-inch display across all models. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is standard.

The Tremor comes with a 360 degree camera system and both it and the Lariat are equipped with Ford’s Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Backup Assist system. The Hitch Assist uses a camera to identify a trailer hitch, then drives the vehicle backwards to line up the hitch receiver under it.

Once the trailer is attached, the driver can use a knob on the dashboard to point the truck and trailer where they want it to go as the vehicle controls the power and steers without Jackknifing.

The order book for the 2025 Maverick opens on August 1 and deliveries are scheduled to begin later this year.
