You’ll soon be able to get your hands on a Hardbody again.

Nissan has announced that the historic nameplate is returning to the lineup.

The Hardbody pickup was first launched in 1985 and remains one of the brand’s most iconic models.

It was replaced for the 1998 model year by the Frontier, which was redesigned for 2022.

Nissan posted a history of the Hardbody on its website this week that closed by saying, ” and there’s more excitement on the way: On Thursday, Sept. 14, the next chapter of the Nissan Hardbody story begins.”

No details on what’s in store were released, aside from an image of a classic red Hardbody in off-road trim next to the grille of a red Frontier.

It’s likely that Nissan will be offering Hardbody trim for the Frontier, rather than renaming the model entirely, and it previewed the idea last year.

Nissan brought a trio of custom Frontiers to the 2022 Chicago Auto Show including one called Project Hardbody that had the same grille, bumper design and black hood decal as the one in the teaser image.

Project Hardbody also had a light bar, fender flares and a modern take on the original Hardbody’s unique triangular wheel design.

The Mississippi-built Frontier will be carrying Nissan’s truck flag beyond 2024 as the brand has announced it is discontinuing the full-size Titan next year.

Automotive News reported in August that the current Frontier generation could continue in production until 2029, when it would be replace by an all electric model, but Nissan has not confirmed that report.
