The boo-birds were out at Bristol.

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin secured a spot in the second round of the NASCAR Playoffs with a win at the Bristol night race.

Hamlin’s teammate Christoper Bell won the first two stages, but Hamlin dominated the closing laps to finish ahead of Kyle Larson and Bell at The Last Great Colosseum.

It was Hamlin’s third win at the Tennessee track and 51st of his carreer.

Hamlin was met by a chorus of boos during his post-race TV interview and told the crowd “I beat your favorite driver … all of them.”

The night saw defending champion Joey Logano eliminated from the playoffs when he got caught up in a multi-car wreck caused by Corey LaJoie losing control on lap 263 of the 500-lap race.

Retiring driver Kevin Harvick, Daytona 500 winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Brickyard 200 winner Michael McDowell also failed to reach the round of 12.
