Ford is plugging in another pickup.

The first Ranger plug-in hybrid has been revealed in the U.K.

The midsize truck features a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor energized by a battery pack big that’s enough to provide up to 28 miles of all-electric driving between charges.

Ford hasn’t released the total power output of the package, but said the model will be able to tow up to the Ranger’s current maximum of 7,700 pounds. It will also be equipped with Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system, which allows the powertrain to double as a generator feeding electrical outlets in the vehicle.

Even as it launches fully electric models, Ford has made hybrids a key part of its strategy and recently said that it plans to double output of the F-150 PowerBoost hybrid in the U.S.

For now, that’s the only hybrid pickup that will be available here. The Ranger PHEV that will be sold in Europe and other markets starting in late 2024 has not been confirmed for U.S. sales. The global Ranger is built in Thailand, South Africa, Argentina and China, but the location of Ranger PHEV production has not been announced.

The new U.S. Ranger will be offered with a 270 hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, a 315 hp 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 and a 405 hp 3.0-liter V6 in the high performance Raptor model.
