See And Hear It: Kyle Larson’s First Lap Of Indianapolis Motor Speedway In A Hybrid IndyCar
Kyle Larson is getting up to speed.
The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion is taking part in a rookie orientation test session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in preparation for his entry in next year’s Indy 500.
Larson will be attempting to complete a double by racing in the Indy 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
He’ll be driving for the Arrow McLaren team at Indy.
The track posted video of Larson’s first lap on X, which also offers a sneak-peek at what the new hybrid cars will sound like.
IndyCar is adding an electric motor to its turbocharged V6 formula that will give the 700 hp cars an extra 150 hp, although it’s not clear how much of a boost they will get on Indy’s oval since there won’t be an opportunity to charge the battery under braking as on a smaller oval or road course.

Larson will be the seventh driver to attempt to complete the double, the last being Kurt Busch, who finished sixth in the Indy 500 in 2014, but blew an engine at Charlotte and couldn’t finish the race.
