The Fall Guy’s New Truck Should Really Be A Rivian — Here’s Why

“The Fall Guy” will soon be jumping into theaters … in a big GMC Sierra pickup.

The classic TV show about a stunt man with a side gig as a bounty hunter has been rebooted as a feature film starring Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a role originally played by Lee Majors.

The first trailer for the big budget blockbuster has been released ahead of its premiere next March, and it reveals there will be an interesting cameo.

Seavers is seen pulling up to his house in a modified brown and gold 1980s GMC Sierra, which is the same type of truck he drove on the show.

Later, he’s shown driving and jumping from a brand-new GMC Sierra in a similar color scheme, before it gets destroyed in a crash.

Bringing back the square body is a perfect homage, but there’s actually a more appropriate modern truck they could have used.

Along with its six-inch suspension lift, grille guard, light bar and other off-road equipment, the TV GMC was equipped with a secret compartment for Seavers to hide the fugitives he caught while bringing them in for his reward.

It was in a box installed behind the cabin that was accessed by doors installed in the sides of the bed.

The Automotive and Collision Repair program at Indiana’s Vincennes University built an excellent replica of the TV truck a few years ago for a project, which was later sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction for $99,000, and it included this feature.

Unfortunately for fans, neither the new or old truck in the trailer appears to have any hidden doors. To be fair, the plot of the film is about Seavers finding the kidnapped star of the movie he’s working on, rather than a bail runner, but this series has franchise written all over it, so he should be prepared for future jobs, right?

Rather than chopping up a new truck, however, there’s one he can buy from the factory with a built-in smuggling space.

The Rivian R1T pickup comes with a so-called Gear Tunnel that has doors on either side and, as has been proven time and time again in social media videos, is large enough to fit someone inside … albeit snugly and inadvisably.

The electric truck is also silent, which makes it good for sneaking up on skips in, has 835 hp for quick acceleration and an air suspension that can lift it five inches from its normal drive height. It’s also more apropos of today’s Hollywood scene.

While it is expensive, with a starting price of $87,000, the new Sierra used in the film is an AT4X model that has a base price of $83,595 before any options or modifications.

I’m sure it’s too late for reshoots, of course, and a GMC spokesman told American Cars And Racing that the company partnered with the production, so I don’t think they’ll be losing Seavers as a customer anytime soon.

Gosling has driven a GMC on screen before and it was an electric truck. His character Ken in the “Barbie” movie owning a custom Hummer EV pickup that’s available in the video game Forza Horizon.
