No one ever wants to see a police car in their rearview mirror, but some look better than others when they show up there.
The American Association of State Troopers is running its annual survey to find out which state has the best-looking cruisers.
Each law enforcement agency submitted photos the cars, SUVs and trucks they think best represent their fleet, many of which feature clever compositions. Some are parked in beautiful backdrops, while others are depicted aside landmarks, animals and even fighter jets.
Anyone can vote in the survey and it runs through July 13 at high noon eastern time, but the association has been releasing a running tally and there are several break-out vehicles along with one clear leader.
Here’s a look at where things stand at the top as of July 3:
Michigan’s iconic “Blue Goose” cruisers are championed by a Dodge Charger sporting the fleet’s signature Michigan State Police Blue paint, door badge and single beacon light, which had collected 19,394 votes.
The Georgia State Patrol went all-in on the equines by parking a Mustang GT cruiser net to an actual horse. The coupe features a blue body with a silver hood and roof and is equipped with sturdy push bars that probably don’t help its aerodynamics, but can move heavier things than the air out of its way. The department might need to give it the spurs, however, as it was trailing Michigan by a large margin at 15,412 votes.
Reigning champion Florida was hot on its neighbor’s tail with another Mustang GT wearing its black and tan scheme that racked up 15,156 votes.
Indiana is hoping the Indiana Hoosiers football team’s success will help push its new retro blue and white cruisers to the top, which it depicted with a Dodge Durango and Ford Mustang GT parked on the field of the NCAA National Champion’s field. It’ll be a comeback win if it can pull it off, because the cruisers only scored 9,139 votes by July 3. The California Highway Patrol’s black and white Chevrolet Camaro SS might crush your groove, but the not-so-colorful scheme remains an all-time classic. Nevertheless, it’s going to have to get out of second gear if it wants to win, as it was sitting in fifth with 8,143 votes.
