It Looks Like GM Is Going To Build An Electric Honda In Tennessee

The UAW has released the details on its new contract with General Motors, which reveals several future products that will be built in the USA.

It’s not as specific as the outlines for the agreements reached with Stellantis and Ford, which listed the models and their expected production dates, but does mention a couple of previously unannounced items.

Key among them is that the Spring Hill, Tenn., factory that currently builds the Cadillac Lyriq SUV will be adding a second electric GM model along with a “future partner EV.”

GM hasn’t identified the second model yet and the only known collaboration it has planned is with non-unionized Honda, for which it will be building the upcoming Prologue and Acura ZDX SUVs on the Ultium electric platform that underpins the Lyriq and Chevy Blazer EV.

The Blazer is manufactured at a GM factory in Mexico that will add the smaller Chevrolet Equinox EV next year.

Honda so far has only said that its vehicles will be built in North America, without specifying a location.

It’s possible that GM will build the more luxurious ZDX with the Lyriq and the Prologue in Mexico, but neither it nor Honda has yet indicated what the plan is.

The automakers were exploring another joint venture for a lower-priced model, but said last month that they were abandoning the project due to the “changing business environment.”
