Toyota has reached a major manufacturing milestone.

The world’s largest automaker announced that it has built 300 million cars since it was founded 88 years ago.

The total includes 34 million that have been manufactured in the U.S. since the first Corolla rolled off the line in 1986 at the NUMMI factory in California that it jointly owned with General Motors.

The facility was later purchased by Tesla and is still used by the electric automaker today.

The Corolla is still produced in the U.S. at a factory in Mississippi and is the lowest-priced car built in the country by any brand.

Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda said that his grandfather, Kiichiro, said, “carmaking is something everyone does together.”

“I think this number of 300 million stands as proof of all the hard work, every day, of our colleagues at Toyota our suppliers and dealers, and all the many other stakeholders, as well as all those who came before us,” Toyoda said.

“This history did not just start when they built the first car. The founding members repeatedly tried and failed, continually building prototypes, and their efforts led to the Toyota of today.”

Toyota’s first vehicle was the G1 1.5-ton pickup that was built in japan from 1935 to 1936.
