The Record-Setting $3.85 Million Chevrolet Corvette L88 Is Up For Auction Again

Will history be made again after a decade?

A 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 that was sold for a record $3.85 million at auction in 2014 will be returning to the spotlight at the Mecum Auctions event in Kissimmee, Fla., on January 13.

The price still stands as the highest ever paid for a Corvette.

The L88 was a racing package available for the Corvette from 1967 to 1969 that featured upgraded performance equipment including a 427-cubic-inch V8 that was officially rated at 430 hp, but actually put out well over 500 hp in tests.

The Mecum car is one of 20 L88s that were built in 1967 and the only one to feature a Rally Red over red color scheme.

The engine isn’t original, but it is correct, and the car comes with its tank sticker build sheet.

The car was drag raced early in its life, according to Mecum, but has undergone a full restoration and is the winner of several collector car awards. It won’t be the only L88 taking center stage at the event.

The first and last L88s are being offered as a pair on January 14 and would make perfect bookends for the Rally Red car — if you could afford them all.
