SRX Racing Series Cancels 2024 Season, Future Unclear

The Superstar Racing Experience, known as SRX, has announced the “postponement” of its 2024 season.

The short track stock car series features all-star lineups with drivers from NASCAR, IndyCar and other racing disciplines competing in identically prepared cars.

The series was launched in 2021 by championship winning NASCAR Cup Series Crew Chief Ray Evernham and driver Tony Stewart.

Evernham left the series the following year and this week revealed that he and business partner Rob Kauffman have acquired the rights to the IROC (International Race Of Champions) brand, which is a defunct all-star series that inspired SRX.

SRX ran a six-race midweek summer schedule that was picked up by ESPN last year to reboot its “Thursday Night Thunder” promotion.

Five of this year’s tracks had already been announced and were selling tickets before the series shut things down.

“We entered the next phase of our racing series with great anticipation and excitement for what was ahead,” SRX said in a statement.

“Our expectations, however, have been tempered by market factors that have proven too much to overcome.”

“We enjoyed our relationship with SRX and wish them all the best,” ESPN told Fox Sports reporter, Bob Pockrass.

Stewart was a competitor in the series and won the inaugural championship, with Marco Andretti and Ryan Newman following him in 2022 and 2023.
