It was a tale of two Demons.

A 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was sold at the Mecum Auctions event in Kissimmee, Fla., on Thursday night for $286,000.

Only 3,300 of the 808 hp cars were built and the Maximum Steel-color example had just 30 miles on its odometer.

The price wasn’t a huge surprise given the rarity of the car, but it was compared to another one that crossed the block.

The Demon was upstaged by the 900 hp Demon 170 last year, which has a 900 hp engine that can crank out 1,025 hp when running on E85.

It’s a better performer than the original Demon in every way and just 3,300 were built before Challenger production ended on December 22 with a Pitch Black-painted Demon 170 the last car off the line They’re a tough get and some dealers were selling them for way more than their maximum list price of $138,480.

But while you might think it would be immediately more desirable than the 2018 car, that wasn’t the case in Kissimmee, where a loaded F8 Green Demon 170 with the front passenger and rear seat delete option and 20 miles on the odometer was sold from the same collection for $231,000.

It’s hard to pin down the reasoning behind this, but another 2018 Demon with 84 miles was sold for just $187,000, so there just may have been too many at the auction.

One thing is for sure, as the first and second most-powerful V8 muscle cars ever made, you probably can’t count on picking up one at a bargain price anytime soon.
