New Photo: NASCAR’S Auto Club Speedway Demolition
The temporary track NASCAR is building inside of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for the Busch Light Clash is almost complete, but another Southern California oval is nearly gone.
A new aerial image has been posted to Reddit by someone who flew over the former Auto Club Speedway in Fontana last week that reveals the venue’s current condition.
The NASCAR-owned two-mile track is being demolished so that the property can be redeveloped as an industrial park, but there are plans to replace it with a half-mile oval as soon as possible.
Work began at the site in October and the photo shows the extent of the deconstruction that has been done.

The shape of the full oval can still be discerned, but all of the pavement has been torn up, aside from a strip stretching from turn four and down the main straight in front of the center section of the grandstand, which has been retained.

Pit road and the garage area are also intact and are expected to be incorporated into the new facility.
Site maps included in the permit proposals show it to be a paperclip shape track with tight turns and relatively long straights.

NASCAR is still awaiting final approval to begin construction, but it has previously indicated the project will take around 18 months, which suggests 2026 is the earliest it will be on the regular season schedule.
Kyle Busch won the final NASCAR race held at Auto Club Speedway last season, while Jimmie Johnson holds the now unbreakable record of six career wins at the track.
But the fastest man who ever lapped it is the recently deceased IndyCar driver Gil de Ferran, who put in a 241.428 mph lap in 2003.
