Josh Berry will replace John Hunter Nemechek in the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club Toyota Camry XSE in 2027, the team has confirmed. Berry will join Erik Jones and Riley Herbst in a full-time three-car effort set to launch next season.
Berry was told in June that he was losing his seat at Wood Brothers Racing in the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse to Jesse Love next year and has recently gone on a tear with six consecutive top 10 finishes.
“Legacy Motor Club is an organization that clearly has a vision for where they want to go, and I want to be part of that,” Berry said in a news release. “I’ve had a chance to see this team up close and I know what they’re capable of. The way Jimmie has built this place — the people, the culture, the direction — it’s exactly the kind of environment I want to compete in.
Berry is 35, but in just his third full-time Cup Series season, with his single win coming at Las Vegas in March 2025. He gained attention by winning the 2017 CARS Late Model Stock Tour and 2020 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championships.
“Josh is a proven competitor who has earned everything through hard work and getting his hands dirty,” Legacy Motor Club co-owner Jimmie Johnson said. “What stands out about Josh is his ability to manage the big picture behind the wheel — his experience, perspective and wisdom. His career has been built on that foundation, and I know he will have a meaningful impact here. We’re thrilled to have him at LEGACY.”
The news comes a week after Legacy Motor Club announced that Nemecheck is being let go at the end of the 2026 season. The 29-year-old is in his third season with the team and has yet to score a Cup Series win.
