The Honda Civic is going hybrid again.
Honda unveiled the updated 2025 Civic sedan and hatchback, which will be offered with a hybrid powertrain option for the first time since 2015.
The sedans are built in Canada and the hatchbacks in Indiana. Both are available with a 200 hp, 232 lb-ft hybrid unit that combines a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine with two electric motors and a continuously variable automatic transmission driving the front wheels.
It’s essentially the same system used in the Honda Accord and CR-V hybrids with a different tune and is expected to get a 50 mpg EPA fuel economy rating.

It will be offered in Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims, which Honda expects to account for 40% of Civic sales.

“The new Civic hybrid is a perfectly-timed addition to the Honda lineup as hybrid-electric sales continue to grow, providing Honda with an important building block toward 100% zero-emissions vehicle sales by 2040,” Lance Woelfer, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, American Honda Motor Co. said in a press release.

“Honda hybrid-electric models represented over one-quarter of our overall brand sales in 2023, and the fun-to-drive Civic hybrid is a fantastic new product at the gateway of our popular electrified lineup along with Accord hybrid, CR-V hybrid and the all-electric Prologue.”

The hybrid powertrain replaces the 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in the Civic lineup, while the 158 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder remains the base engine. High performance Si and Type-R models continue to be available.

The Civic has also received a mild styling update and its infotainment system now features Google Built-In with Google Assistant.
Pricing hasn’t been announced, but will be coming very soon as the 2025 Civics will be shipping to dealers within weeks.
