Cadillac may be dropping its top again soon.

The Sollei is a two-door convertible based on the upcoming $340,000 Celestiq luxury car.

Cadillac’s intention with the Celestiq is to reclaim its “Standard of the World” mantle and for each one to be uniquely built to it’s buyers preferences, as many of today’s ultra-luxury vehicles are. The Sollei is meant to showcase the kind of custom commissions that are possible on the Celestiq’s Ultium electric vehicle platform.

It’s name is a play on the French word for sun, Solei, combining Sol (“sun” in Latin) and Lei (short for “leisure”), according to Cadillac.

The 2+2 is inspired by Cadillac’s mid-century drop tops and painted a Manila Cream color that the brand offered in 1957 and 1958.

It shares the Celestiq’s epic 130-inch wheelbase and features stretched doors for easy access to the spacious rear of the cabin. Its roof is made from metallic fabric.

The fully functional Sollei is powered by the same 600 hp all-wheel-drive system as the Celestiq and retains its pillar-to-pillar dashboard display. The interior is trimmed in unfinished wood veneer along with Nappa leather and metal finishes with color-changing hues.

A glass-door beverage chiller is installed between the rear seats and a mushroom-based Fine Mycelium material is used on the charging pads and door pockets.

Cadillac crafted a set of 3D-printed bird calls and a journal for notes and sketches, to lean into the Sollei’s open-air driving experience.

“Sollei reimagines the discovery of travel, envisioning a personalized driving experience that connects one with the natural world around them,” Erin Crossley, Cadillac’s design director said. “The concept celebrates Cadillac’s pedigree of elegant convertibles in a modern form by cultivating high luxury through design expressions and experiences.”

Although it didn’t announce any production plans for the Sollei or something like it, Cadillac strongly suggested it would be possible. Cadillac hasn’t offered a convertible since the 1985 Eldorado, which was built for it by the American Sunroof Corporation, while its last factory offering was the 1976 Eldorado Convertible that was much closer in spirit to the Sollei.
