Acura threw a wrench into the SUV works with the original 2010 ZDX.

It was one of the first SUV “coupes” and its edgy design was considered very radical for the time, although it fits right in today as the segment’s style has evolved.

Now Acura is ready to shake things up again.

Honda’s luxury brand will reveal a new concept vehicle during Monterey Car Week in California that previews an upcoming electric model.

Acura describes it as a dynamically styled “segment defying sport utility vehicle” and released a single teaser image that shows a cropped view of the rear of the vehicle.

The angle of the shot makes it difficult to get a clear idea of the overall shape, but it appears to have a raked hatchback that ends in an almost trunk-like lid.

The model will be built at a Honda factory in Ohio starting in 2026 and will be the first designed on a new Honda-developed EV platform that it previewed at this year’s CES with a Honda concept called the 0 Series Saloon. That car featured an extremely aerodynamic wedge shape and gullwing doors.

Honda said the platform will use a high-density battery pack that can be charged from 15% to 80% in 10-15 minutes and maintain 90% of its capacity after 10 years.

Acura’s entire current lineup is built in the U.S., including the electric ZDX SUV that went on sale this year and is manufactured for it by General Motors alongside the Cadillac Lyirq in Tennessee.

It is built on GM’s Ultium platform, as is the Honda Prologue, but they will be the only models that come from the partnership before Honda switches to its in-house tech.

Acura’s American manufacturing is often overlooked, but won it the American Cars And Racing US-Built Car Of The Year Award with the Integra Type S, which is far from an electric car, but built in Ohio.

The front-wheel-drive liftback four-door is powered by a 320 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

Details on the Monterey reveal have not been released, but we’ll bring you the latest when we get it.
