Daniel Suarez Escapes Massive Car Fire During NASCAR’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 At Daytona
Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez had to hurry out of his car as it was engulfed in flames on pit road during the first stage break.
Suarez had made a pit stop under yellow, but returned to pit road with the rear of his car burning.
A review of video from the pit camera revealed the unusual chain of events that caused the fire.
Some fuel had spilled while Suarez’s car was being refueled as Denny Hamlin pulled out of his adjacent pit stall and parked behind Suarez.

As Hamlin’s car sat there it came into contact with some of the fuel and caused it to ignite, which then sent the flame back toward Suarez’s car as he left the pits.
Suarez was uninjured, but retired from the race while Hamlin was able to return to the track.
