How many people can say they own a car that led the field at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway?

Chevrolet has been the exclusive provider of pace cars to the NASCAR Brickyard 400 since its inaugural race in 1994 and it’s built up quite a collection over the past 30 years.

It’s kept many of the cars, but has brought 21 of them to the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale fall auction to give private collectors a crack at them.

The cars are all modified with pace car equipment and being sold on scrap titles, but are fully functional.

The pace car from the 2024 race isn’t crossing the block, but it was another Camaro ZL1 driven by team owner Rick Hendrick, who was celebrating both his team’s 40th anniversary in the Cup Series and the 30th anniversary of is his driver, Jeff Gordon, winning the first Brickyard 400.

It will more than likely be the last time the Camaro serves as pace car for the event as it was discontinued after the 2024 model year. However, Chevrolet will continue to use the Camaro body on its Cup Series cars in 2025 because it won’t have any production cars to base it on, other than the mid-engine Corvette, next year.Credit: Penske Entertainment: Matt Fraver
