Honda Civic Hybrid, Ford Ranger And VW ID. Buzz Win North American Car Of The Year Awards

Well, at least two of them are made in North America.

The Honda Civic Hybrid, Ford Ranger and Volkswagen ID. Buzz were named North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year at the Detroit Auto Show on Friday.

The Civic Hybrid, which is built in Canada and the U.S., beat the Toyota Camry and Kia K4 in the car category.

The Michigan-built Ford Ranger was up against the all-new Toyota Tacoma and redesigned Ram 1500 in the truck category.

The German-made Volkswagen ID. Buzz minivan was the most surprising winner as it was up against the highly regarded Chevrolet Equinox EV and Hyundai Santa Fe and has been met with mixed reviews due to the high price and short driving range of the models available in the U.S.

The North American Car of the Year awards are voted on by a panel of 50 automotive journalists form the U.S. and Canada and considers new and significantly updated models available in both markets.
