Tesla is getting ready to tidy things up.
The automaker has released video of a new robotic car cleaning system that can be used with its future driverless ride hailing service.
It’s demonstrated working on a Tesla Robotaxi prototype, which is parked in a station and opens its power doors to allow access to a robotic arm.
The arm is equipped with a vacuum that is powerful enough to lift a backpack off a seat to move it out of the way and suck up water bottles, but also does traditional cleaning with multiple nozzles to get into different spots.

It is shown closing the armrest so it can clean the seat bottom of the two-passenger vehicle without obstruction. After it is done sucking things up, it swaps to a cleaning cloth and wipes down the vehicle’s touchscreen.

Elon Musk said this week that Tesla will launch a driverless ride-hailing service in Austin this summer before expanding to California and other states. He didn’t say what vehicle will be used, but volume production of the Robotaxi isn’t scheduled to start until 2026.

All of Tesla’s vehicles use the same Full Self-Driving software that will enable the service, if it is ready in time, but only the Model X has power rear doors.
