Somebody actually drove their Buick GNX … a lot!

The 1987 Buick GNX has been one of the hottest collectible American cars in recent years.

The limited edition muscle car often sells at auction for more than $200,000, but the high priced ones all have something in common besides being black. They usually have very low mileage that’s in the thousands, hundreds and sometimes even single digits.

The record price paid for one was $308,000 for an example with 568 miles on the odometer in 2022, while another with 8.5 miles was auctioned for $275,000 the year before.

Just 547 GNXs were built, so it’s not that surprising that they’ve been used sparingly. It’s rare to see anything resembling a high mileage car, but one that is very much that is currently up for sale. The car on Facebook Marketplace is listed as #380 with 100,615 miles, although the seller says he recently had it restored and has put just 612 miles on it since the work was complete.

“Everything has been replaced or rebuilt,” he says, but all of the original parts have been retained and come with it. The engine has also been upgraded by noted GNX tuner Richard Clarke and reportedly dynos at 525 hp. That is a big bump from the 3.8-liter turbo V6’s official 276 hp rating, which was always considered underrated.

The seller says he has owned the car for 30 years and that it spent most of its life in California, but is now stored in a climate controlled facility in Tennessee. The firm list price is $95,000, which sounds like it could be a bargain given the work that’s gone into it. Hagerty pegs a GNX in mere Good condition at around $110,000, although that might not take into account a large number of replacement parts.

What we want to know is, do you have a GNX with more mileage than this? If so, we’d love to hear from you, even if you’re not planning on selling it, so please drop us a line at [email protected] to let us know. Rumor has it there’s at least one out there that’s broken the 200,000-mile mark, but we’ll believe it when we see it.
