Ram is launching the first Power Wagon Diesel pickup later this year, but there’s an old Dodge Power Wagon Diesel for sale that you might want to check out first.

It’s a 1946 Power Wagon that’s been restored and modified by Desert Power Wagons. The North Carolina custom truck builder had the iconic body refreshed and the rear doors replaced with rear-hinged suicide doors before installing it on an all-new fully boxed steel chassis.

It is equipped with a four-link suspension system, Fox shocks, Eibach springs, a Rancho steering damper, Mevotech steering arms and a Rough Country track bar.

It also swapped its original gas straight six for a modern 5.9-liter Cummins turbodiesel straight-six tuned to produce 400 hp and more than 900 lb-ft of torque with a new turbo, fuel injectors and intake system.

The engine sends its power to the truck’s 40-inch off-road tires through a four-speed automatic transmission and NV271 two-speed transfer case, while eight-piston SSBC brakes nestled in its 20-inch KMC beadlock wheels take care of slowing things down.

The front steel bumper contains a 12,000-pound Warn winch and power side steps make it easier to climb into the cabin, which is a mix of new seats upholstered in distressed leather and an old-fashioned dashboard embedded with electronic gauges and a touchscreen that controls an infotainment system that includes Rockford Fosgate audio; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration; and a 360-degree camera system. A starlight headliner adds a distinctive luxury touch.

The bed is lined with real Biltmore white ash and the truck’s body is painted Mercedes-Benz Electric Green Metallic with gloss black fenders.

Desert Power Wagons trucks are all hand-built and require hundreds of hours of work to complete, which is reflected in their prices. This one lists for $424,950, which is a bit more than the $88,470 Ram is charging for the new Power Wagon Diesel.
