The Ram Power Wagon is getting a different kind of power. For the first time ever, Ram 2500 HD Power Wagon will be available with a diesel engine in 2027.
It’s the same Cummins turbocharged 6.7-liter inline-six-cylinder offered across the Ram Heavy Duty lineup and is rated at 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque that’s sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Ram says the Power Wagon Diesel will have a tow rating of nearly 20,000 pounds and a payload capacity approaching 3,000 pounds when it goes on sale later this year.
The Power Wagon Diesel retains the model’s serious off-road capability with front and rear solid axles, front and rear locking differentials and a disconnecting front sway bar. It has 13.2 inches of ground clearance between the axles, but 8.3 inches below its substantial American Axle Manufacturing differentials, which are 9.25 inches in front and 11.5 inches in the rear.

The Power Wagon Diesel rides on 20-inch wheels shod in 34-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires and has front, rear and breakover angles of 26.1, 26 and 26, respectively. A full set of skid plates is standard, including one for the 31-gallon fuel tank.

Pricing starts at $88,470, which gets you a cloth interior with a front bench seat, but there’s a long list of options to dress things up with features like leather upholstery and a touchscreen infotainment system display for the front seat passenger.

One thing missing from the gas model is a factory winch. One of the reasons that the diesel model took so long to come to fruition was because this Power Wagon signature feature blocked too much airflow to the engine. Instead of waiting longer to find a good solution, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis told the team, “screw it, get rid of the winch.” They’re still working on it, though.
Deliveries of the Power Wagon Diesel are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026 when the 2027 Ram 1500 TRX is also released.
