Four outta six ain’t bad.
Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Hill won the United Rentals 300 to kick off the first ever O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season. The retail outlet has taken over the series naming rights from Xfinity this season in a new multi-year deal.
It was Hill’s fourth win out of six starts in the race. Hill dominated by winning the first two stages and leading 78 of 120 laps including the final two, which came after a restart.
Hill had to hold off Justin Allgaier and Jordan Anderson trough the last turn by blocking both lanes before Anderson gave him a bump that sent him clear of the pair.
“After that it was just hammer down all the way hoping that they wouldn’t get back to me,” Hill said of his run down the final stretch.
Allgaier held on for second, followed by Ryan Sieg, Jordan Anderson and Sammy Smith.
