Rivian officially unveiled the full pricing and specifications for its long-awaited R2 compact electric SUV on Thursday, March 12, at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and the American automaker largely delivered on promises it made two years ago.
The lineup kicks off with a $57,990 Performance Launch Package model arriving this spring, while the most affordable $45,000 base version is planned for late 2027.
The R2 Performance Launch Package packs a dual-motor all-wheel-drivetrain producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque and is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds.
ts 87.9-kWh battery delivers an EPA-estimated 330 miles of range and the R2 Performance has a 4,400-pound towing capacity. It also has a semi-active suspension, 9.6 inches of ground clearance, yellow brake calipers, 21-inch wheels, and a lifetime subscription to Rivian’s Autonomy+ hands-free driving feature.

The R2 Premium will follow later in the year at $53,990 with a dual-motor AWD powertrain producing 450 horsepower and the sme 330-mile range estimate. The 350 hp rear-wheel-drive R2 Standard Long Range goes on sale in the first half of 2027, starting at $48,490 as the range leader of the lineup with an estimated 345 miles.

The most affordable version will arrive in late 2027 at $45,000 — as was promised when the model was announced in 2024 — and deliver 275+ miles of range.
The R2 is equipped with a Tesla-style NACS charging port and can use the Tesla Supercharger network. Rivian says a charge from 10% to 80% takes about a half-hour.
