Hopefully “too many cooks in the kitchen” doesn’t apply to NASCAR team ownership.
Jimmie Johnson’s Legacy Motor Club has announced a new “strategic ownership group” that includes a roster of stars from across the sports, media and business worlds.
Several, including celebrity chef Guy Fieri and singer Darius Rucker, had previously been announced, but several others have been added to an 11-strong list that includes MLB players Bryce Harper and Chase Utley; pro Surfer Kelly Slater; U.S. Open tennis champion Andy Roddick; IndyCar greats Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanan; Away founder Jen Rubio; and CrossHarbor Capital Partners founder Sam Byrne.
The group’s exact ownership stake has not been announced, but Johnson said they all bring differnt skils to the table as the team looks to grow.
“This is not a traditional ownership group,” he said. “It is a collection of people who understand competition, leadership, innovation, storytelling, and how enduring organizations are built. They come from different worlds but share a common belief: that Legacy can become something fundamentally different within motorsports and culture.”

Legacy Motor Club was previously Petty GMS Motorsports and still counts NASCAR Richard Petty as a minority owner and team ambassador.
The team currently operates with two chartered Cup Series entries for John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones and will be adding a third chartered car and yet-to-be determined driver in 2027. Johnson has also been running a third open entry car for himself in several races, but next year’s Daytona 500 is set to be the last.
The car usually wears the No. 84, but his old team, Hendrick Motorsports, has agreed to lend him the No. 48 he used during his seven championship seasons for his final race.
