The long-awaited “Days of Thunder” sequel is on track for a June 2, 2028 release, Tom Cruise has confirmed in a social media post that includes a photo of him next to co-star Anne Hathaway and a NASCAR Cup Series car.
Plot details haven’t been released, but Variety reports that Hathaway’s character is a team owner and engineer.
The film will be directed by Jonathan Levine, whose credits include “The Night Before,” “Long Shot,” and the in-production “Mr. Irrelevant, The John Tuggle Story.”
“Days of Thunder” premiered in 1990, and its success helped propel NASCAR to become one of America’s top sports series. Cruise played cocky rookie driver Cole Trickle, mentored by crew chief Harry Hogge, portrayed by Robert Duvall. Cruise’s love interest was played by his future, now ex-wife, Nicole Kidman. The production worked closely with NASCAR and incorporated footage shot during actual races and several driver cameos.
Additional casting and the sequel’s title have not yet been announced.

Anne Hathaway is a deal killer. I am not a NASCAR fan, and I probably only watched DoT for the first time in the past 18 months. I love racing and racing films, but this is a pass for me if she is in.
