The bar for the Buick GNX has been reset. An example of the rare muscle car was recently auctioned on Bring a Trailer for $427,000, which smashed the model’s previous $308,000 record price. It was a special one that had just 30 miles on the odometer, but still marks a big jump in the GNX’s value.
Just 547 of the coupes were built in 1987, each painted black with grey interiors and equipped with a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 that was officially rated at 276 hp and 360 lb-ft. Many have hardly been driven since new. Several still have less than 100 miles on the odometer and there’s one floating around that showed just 8.7 miles on its odometer when it was last sold at auction in 2021 for $275,000.
Now there’s one from the opposite end of the spectrum coming up for sale. Car #461 is set to cross the block at the Vicari Auctions Crusin’ the Coast event in Biloxi, Miss., on Oct. 10 with 18,391.3 miles on it.
It’s also far from stock, unlike most GNXs. It’s had dual cooling fans and a new exhaust system installed and its suspension has been lowered an inch, but all of the original parts are included with the lot for anyone interested in returning it to its original condition. The interior is in great shape, but not pristine. We’d guess it might be considered in Good condition on the Hagerty Price Guide sale, which values it at about $175,000, but there’s really no telling what the market is following the $427,000 sale.
We are aware of a few other GNX with more miles on them, including one with 56,000 miles that was sold on the Hagerty Marketplace in 2025 for $149,800.
Buick fans may be able to get a performance car with much lower mileage soon, however, as the brand is reportedly working on a new sport sedan for 2028 that will share its chassis with the next-generation Cadillac CTS and four-door Chevrolet Camaro. Buick hasn’t yet confirmed the model, but it is expected to be a relatively low volume offering, but closer to 20,000 rather than the GNX’s 547. It’s not clear what Buick is going to call it, although GNX, Grand National and Regal are all on the table.
