The Cheapest Cars Made In The USA
Cheap cars aren’t very cheap anymore.
There are only two new models on sale today that are priced under $20,000 when destination fees are added and, no surprise, neither of them are made in the USA.
But it’s not all six-figure SUVs and pickups that are built here. New car shoppers can still find some affordable vehicles that are manufactured in the U.S. and not just by domestic brands.
CHEVROLET MALIBU – $26,195
The Chevrolet Malibu isn’t long for this world. Production in Kansas is scheduled to end this September and there isn’t a new one in the works. Instead, it will be replaced at the factory by the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV. The front-wheel-drive sedan has a 163 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a claim to fame. At $26,195, it is the lowest-priced car made in America by a U.S. brand.

SUBARU LEGACY – $26,065
Subaru may be best known-for its SUVs, but its lowest-priced Indiana-built model is the Legacy midsize sedan. It does come standard with all-weather all-wheel-drive, so the brand’s all-weather attitude remains. It also has a 182 hp four-cylinder engine and the EyeSight package of electronic driver aids. Don’t wait if you want one, though, because 2025 is going to be the last model year before Subaru discontinues it so that it can make more of those SUVS.

The Honda Civic Hatchback costs $500 more than the Canadian-built Civic sedan, but it’s made in Indiana. The five-door comes with a 158 hp four-cylinder engine, automatic transmission and a full array of electronic driver aids including adaptive cruise control for the base price.

Standard equipment includes automatic emergency brakes and adaptive cruise control. A hybrid model is also built at the factory that has a 196 hp all-wheel-drive system and gets 42 mpg combined.

TOYOTA COROLLA – $23,185
The Mississippi-made Corolla is the US-Built discount king, but it’s no bargain basement model. The four-door sedan has a starting price of $23,185 that gets you a 169 hp four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission good for 35 mpg combined. It has a spacious interior for its size and comes standard with a package of electronic driver aids that includes lane-centering adaptive cruise control.
