Is Ford about to fill in another blank?

The automaker will be unveiling the updated 2024 F-150 in a couple of weeks, but a new document suggests that another number could be along for the ride.

American Cars And Racing has discovered that Ford filed for trademark protection on the “F-200” name on August 28.

Ford hasn’t used the designation prior to this, but it did offer an F-100 from 1953 until 1983.

Since then, the pickup classes have become pretty clearly defined across the industry, with the F-150, F-250 and F-350 analogous to the 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks from GM and Ram. But Ford has split the difference before.

THE 2024 FORD F-150 MAY BE A TRANSFORMER

It added an F-600 to its medium duty lineup between the F-550 and F-650 for the 2020 model year and filed a trademark on it just a couple of weeks before its reveal. It was designed to blend Class 6 capabilities with drivability closer to a Class 5 trucks.

The current Ford F-150 provides towing and hauling capabilities on par with F-250s from not long ago, so perhaps it is following a similar idea with the F-200.

IS THE FORD LOBO PICKUP MIGRATING TO THE USA?

It wouldn’t be the first automaker to try something like this, as Nissan positioned its soon to be discontinued Titan XD between the light and heavy duty classes.

Whatever the numbers end up being, the 2024 Ford F-150 will debut in Detroit sometime during the week that the show kicks off on September 13.
