NASCAR’s Bristol Dirt Race Dead For 2024
Bristol Motor Speedway is keeping things clean next year.
The Tennessee track has announced that it will not be converting the surface to dirt for the 2024 spring NASCAR Cup Series race, as it has for the past three seasons.
“As the motorsports world focuses on America’s Night Race tomorrow, we are thrilled to announce Bristol Motor Speedway will host the return of the Food City 500 on the concrete high-banks of the World’s Fastest Half Mile in the spring of 2024,†said Bristol Motor Speedway President and General Manager Jerry Caldwell.
“We will revive a logo reminiscent of the first Food City 500s in the early ’90s and resurrect the track’s vintage trademark look and feel of the era. We’re looking forward to a great weekend of racing and what’s to come in 2024.â€

Bristol created the Food City Dirt race in 2021 in an effort to drum up interest for its spring race date, which had seen declining attendance compared to the more popular fall playoffs event.
It didn’t have the intended effect, however, and got pushback from some drivers that didn’t think it was right for the series.

The conversion was also a costly and massive undertaking that required around 2,300 truckloads to the 23,000 cubic yards of clay into the stadium.
