The Cheapest American Car That’s Still Made In USA Isn’t Being Made At All Right Now
The Chevrolet Malibu is taking an unplanned vacation.
General Motors has paused production of the midsize sedan due to a parts shortage caused by the UAW strike.
The Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kan., that produces the Malibu was idled until further notice on Wednesday.
Some components needed for the car are stamped at GM’s Wentzville Assembly plant near St. Louis, which has been stuck by the UAW.

Wentzville also builds the Chevrolet Colorado and Express along with the and GMC Canyon and Savana.
With a starting price of $26,195 ($25.795 for fleet buyers), the Malibu is the lowest-priced vehicle that’s manufactured in the USA by an American brand. The current generation was launched for the 2016 model year and last updated for 2019.

Chevrolet’s cheapest models aren’t in danger of being in short supply anytime soon, however. The brand imports the $21,495 Trax and $24,395 Trailblazer from South Korea.
