Tesla Cyberquad Returns From Recall Purgatory In Time For The Holidays

The Tesla Cybertruck-inspired Cyberquad for Kids is back a year after the ride-on was the subject of a total recall.

The $1,900 vehicle was inspired by the electric full-size Cyberquad ATV that Tesla featured during the Cybertruck’s unveiling in 2019.

While the show vehicle was just a one-off that was apparently based on a Yamaha ATV, the children’s version is built by Radio Flyer with a top speed of 10 mph and a weight limit of 150 pounds.

Tesla put the Cyberquad for Kids on sale in December 21, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission later determined that it “fails to comply with the federal mandatory safety standard requirements for youth ATVs, including mechanical suspension and maximum tire pressure.”

The CPSC also said that Tesla didn’t have an “ATV action plan” that it requires for ATV sales and includes “rider training, dissemination of safety information, age recommendations, and other safety measures.”

Updates that have been made to the Cybertruck for Kids include:

-Replacement of the rear spring with a steel tube with rubber-coated metal inserts that secures the rear frame to the main frame.

-An updated age grade of 9-12 years old.

-A revised warning label applied to the front left fender. The warning label clearly states that the product is not for off-road use and is not a youth ATV.

-A tire inflation warning label applied to the front left fender.

“We’re thrilled to announce the official relaunch of the Cyberquad for Kids by Radio Flyer, a product we have been working to enhance for the last two years,” Robert Pasin, Radio Flyer’s Chief Wagon Officer, said in a press release.

“Our award-winning product development team has worked closely with the Tesla Design Studio to update this new model, which we know has been highly anticipated by our customers. At Radio Flyer, we take pride in delivering safe and innovative products that spark imaginative play, and we can’t wait to see kids enjoying the new Model 915 Cyberquad out in their communities.”

Tesla also sells a Cyberquad cover for $95.

Deliveries of the Cyberquad for Kids are scheduled to begin in late November, which is just in time for the holiday season and the reveal of the production Cybertruck on November 30.

Tesla hasn’t recently indicated if it ever plans to put a full-size Cyberquad into production.
