Scout Motors Will Get Some Help From Fisker Manufacturer Magna Steyr, Report Says
The new Scout will be living up to the original’s International name.
Volkswagen is planning a reboot of the Scout brand with a lineup of electric SUVs and pickups for 2026.
VW controls the rights to Scout through its ownership of the Navistar truck company, which is the successor of International Harvester.
Scout Motors will be a U.S.-based automaker with a factory in Blythewood, S.C., that was announced earlier this year, but a new report says its first models will have European roots that go beyond VW’s backing.

Automotive News reports that VW has contracted Austria’s Magna Steyr to develop the vehicles for €450, which is around $492 million today. Neither Magna Styer or VW have commented on the report.
The project seems well within Magna Steyr’s capabilities. The contract manufacturer builds the Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, which will soon be offered in an all-electric model, as well as the Fisker Ocean SUV.

Scout Motors hasn’t released any technical details about its vehicles, but has released several teaser concept images that depict them as modernized versions of the classic SUVs and pickups. Both feature tall, boxy bodies with flat hoods level with their beltlines.
A head-on view of the SUV suggests it will have a front bench seat and “alpine” windows running along the roof rails.
