A.J. is heading back to the NASCAR Cup Series a little sooner than expected.

Allmendinger competed in the entire Cup Series season this year with Kaulig Racing, but will be returning to the Xfinity Series full-time with the team in 2024 as he competes in select Cup Series races.

Kaulig has now confirmed that the first of them will be the Daytona 500 in February.

Allmendinger will be driving the No. 16 car in the season-opening race.

Allmendinger has competed in 11 Daytona 500s and has two third-place finishes.

Last year, he brought the Kaulig car home in sixth position.

The veteran driver would go on to pick up his third career Cup Series win at the Charlotte Roval in October.

“I hate crying right now, but, you just, it’s a frickin’ Cup race, man, you don’t know when it’s ever going to happen again,” Allmendinger said during his post-race interview on NBC.

Allmendinger will also be driving in the Xfinity Series United Rentals 300 the day before the Daytona 500.
