Tesla’s font doesn’t have enough of an impact.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Tesla is issuing a recall on nearly every vehicle it has ever sold in the U.S. because the design of several warning lights is too small.

The agency said that a recent audit discovered that the lettering used for Brake, Park and Antilock Brake symbols featured in Teslas since 2012 was smaller than the 3.2 mm requirement in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard regulations.

After being notified, “Tesla voluntarily made a recall determination.” according to NHTSA documents.

Fortunately for Tesla, all of the vehicles use digital instrument clusters, so the issue is being remedied by an over the air software update with new graphics.

A total of 2,193,869 vehicles are affected that includes all 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, and 2019-2024 Model Y that are or were operating a software release through 2023.44.30.9, as well as all 2024 Cybertruck vehicles that are or were operating a software release through 2023.44.9.1.
