New Drone Footage Shows Demolished Auto Club Speedway’s Current Condition — No Short Track Work Yet
The saga of NASCAR’s former Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., continues.
Demolition of the two-mile track began last year, but NASCAR still has no idea when it will start building the short track that’s set to replace it.
All but 89 acres out of the previous 522 acres that made up the property have been sold and are being redeveloped into an industrial park, but NASCAR has retained the rest for the proposed new track.
Part of the issue stems from acquiring approval to begin construction.

It’s already been written off for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season and with an expected 18-month build time, 2026 is already in jeopardy.
Drone photographer Tyson Winter took a trip to the track this week to check on the progress, and found that all of the oval surface, save for the front stretch between the preserved main grandstands and pit road, has now been removed.
Diagrams included with the permit applications show how the new half-mile track might fit on the plot.
Despite the temporary loss of the Fontana track and likely end of the Busch Light Clash at the L.A. Coliseum after three years, NASCAR says it will have a race in Southern California in 2025, but has not yet confirmed where it will be.

The latest rumor is that it will set up a track on the Dodger Stadium property in Los Angeles, where Formula E has been in talks to hold a race on a temporary street circuit using the parking lots and access roads.
NASCAR has not commented on the reports.
