Toyota Is Recalling 102,092 Tundras And Lexus LX SUVs To Replace Their Engines
Toyota will replace the engines in 102,092 Tundras and Lexus LX600 SUVs due to a manufacturing issue that could cause them to lose power or fail.
A recall notice for the full-size trucks was posted in May, but Toyota has now determined that this is the only corrective course of action.
The recall covers trucks equipped with the non-hybrid 3.5-liter V6 known as the V35A.
Debris left behind during their production could cause the main bearings to fail, according to the recall notice.
WHO IS WINNING THE 2024 U.S. TRUCK SALES WAR, GM OR FORD? THE ANSWER: BOTH?
In the May recall documents, Toyota said that there had been 166 field technical reports and 824 warranty claims related to the issue.
The recall covers 98,568 Tundras built from November 2, 2021 through February 13, 2023 and 3,524 LX600s built from July 30, 2021 through November 25, 2022. The problem does not affect trucks built after those dates or the i-Force Max hybridized version of the motor. The Tundra is manufactured in Texas and its engine is produced in Alabama, while the LX600’s final assembly is in Japan.

The Tundra was redesigned for the 2022 model year and is a big hit for Toyota. Sales were up 31.1% through the first six months of this year to 78,454, which beat the Ram 1500 for fourth place behind the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 among full-size pickups.
LX600 sales were down 3.8 percent to 3,315, but the luxury SUV has a $94,415 starting price.
The engines will be replaced under warranty and owners will be given a loaner vehicle while they are in for service, which will require 13-21 hours of labor, according to Automotive News.
