The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 may go down in history as the most powerful muscle car ever, and it is almost history.

Dodge wrapped up production of the coupe last December after building 3,300 and there are only a handful still listed at dealerships.

One of them caught our eye not just because it had the highest advertised price, but also some money on the hood. It’s an odd combination.

The Sublime green car is at Clovis Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram outside of Fresno, Calif., and priced at $426,053, which represents a $300,000 markup over list.

In light of the dwindling number of new examples left and several being recently auctioned for more than $250,000, it’s not really an outlandish ask. They might as well go for it, right? A sales rep at the store said there’s been interest, but no takers at the full price yet.

If anyone really wants the car, they might want to hurry up, because there’s at least one deal on it to be had.

The outlet is currently running a Back to School Savings incentive program that applies to all of the vehicles in stock including this Demon 170, which gets a $9,488 discount bringing the bottom line to $426,053 until 8/10.

With a 900 hp supercharged V8 that can crank out 1,025 hp when it’s running on E85, it might not be the best first car for a high schooler or someone heading off to college, but you can always have them leave it at home in the driveway with the keys for you to keep an eye on while they’re at school.

Just 369 Demon 170s were ordered in Sublime green, but if 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon prices are anything to go by, they’ll all become collectibles someday.

The 808 hp predecessor remains a hot ticket collectible and one was sold this January for $286,000, despite the arrival of the Demon 170.

Of course while the Demon 170 holds the title of Most Powerful American Muscle Car, it won’t soon be the most powerful American car.

Chevrolet discontinued the Camaro that went up against it, but still builds the Corvette and will be launching a new ZR1 model next year with a 1,064 hp twin-turbocharged V8.
