There Are Now More Than 27,000 Tesla Cybertrucks In The World
Tesla recently issued a recall for the Cybertruck due to laggy backup cameras, which offers a view of some interesting information about the electric pickup.
The issue is that if a driver shifts into reverse while the infotainment system screen is still booting up, the camera might not come on within two seconds, which is the maximum duration allowed by federal law.
The recall report says that an investigation found that it takes as long as eight seconds in some vehicles, and Tesla is addressing the issue through an over-the-air software update.
What’s also included in the report is the number of Cybertrucks affected, which sheds light on how many have been built so far. Tesla doesn’t break out Cybertruck or U.S. sales in its quarterly reports.

According to the documents, the recall includes 27,185 Cybertrucks built from the start of production on Nov. 13, 2023 through Sept. 14, 2024. That’s an increase from the 11,383 that were built through May 28, according to a previous recall.
That might not be exactly how many it has delivered to customers so far, but S&P Mobility recently reported that 5,175 Cybertrucks were registered in July alone, and production has been increasing all year.

The Cybertruck’s numbers contrast with Ford’s latest sales reports, which put the total number of F-150 Lightning electric pickup deliveries at 22,807 through September, so it appears to be a close sales race between the two.
