First Look: New Scout SUV And Pickup
The Scouts are almost back.
The Volkswagen-owned Scout Motors reboot is scheduled to debut its all-new electric SUV and Pickup on Oct. 24 and has released two teaser images ahead of the event. The vehicles are shown in shadowy profiles that reveal their profiles while hiding details of the designs.
They appear to be identical from the grille to the windshield and feature the sort of tall hoods that were a signature of the original trucks built from 1961 to 1980.
High clearance bumpers mark them as serious off-roaders, which look to be similar in size to the Rivian R1S and R1T. An earlier image of the front of one of the vehicles suggested that it has a front bench seat and alpine windows along the edge of the roof, but neither can be seen in the new images.

Volkswagen recently entered a $5 billion deal with Rivian to share software, but the Scout project began several years earlier and the company hasn’t indicated how much Rivian hardware will make it into the trucks, which will be manufactured at a new plant that is under construction in South Carolina.

Volkswagen holds the rights to Scout through its ownership of Navistar, which is a successor to International Harvester, and has rebooted it as an U.S.-based automaker.

No powertrain or performance information has been released yet, but some specifications will surely be shared during the reveal, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and will be streamed on the Scout Motors website. The vehicles remain in development, however, and production isn’t slated to begin until 2026, so it’s unlikely everything is finalized at this stage.
