Who is the real Mustang now?

Deliveries of the Ford Mustang Mach-E were up 27% in 2024 to 51,745, which made it both the second-best selling electric SUV in the U.S. and the best selling Mustang.

Ford shipped just 44,003 of the traditional two-door Mustang coupes and convertibles, which were updated for 2024. The tallies were 40,771 for the Mustang Mach-E and 48,605 for the Mustang in 2023.

Ford’s total electric vehicle deliveries increased by 35% to 97,865, with the F-150 Lightning and E-Transit accounting for 33,510 and 12,610, respectively.

The Mustang is currently the only American pony car on sale, following the discontinuation of the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro in December 2023. A new electric Dodge Charger Daytona is heading to showrooms now, however, and will be followed by a gas-powered Charger Sixpack model later in the year.

Ford will soon be releasing a mildly updated Mustang Mach-E for 2025 with a lower starting price of $38,490 and a heat pump HVAC system that should improve its efficiency and cold weather performance.

Ford will also be launching the 815 hp Mustang GTD in the coming weeks, which is priced at $325,000 and won’t likely increase the Mustang’s overall sales too much, although Ford hasn’t yet said how many it plans to sell each year.
