The Ford Mustang GTD Just Broke Its Nürburgring Record, Eyewitness Says

The Mustang GTD is already America’s King of the ‘Ring, but it looks like Ford wants more.
The $325,000 model last year became the first car from a U.S. brand to break the seven-minute barrier on the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordscheife circuit last year with a time of 6:57.685.
Weather conditions weren’t perfect on the day of the record attempt, however, and Ford said it knew the car could go even faster. How much faster? We may soon find out.
CarSpyMedia, a YouTube channel that tracks cars being tested at the Nürburgring, has posted a new video of the 815 hp Mustang GTD back at the track performing what it says was a successful attempt to break its own record.

“Can’t give you the official time that they have driven this time, because Ford should celebrate that first. All I can say is that they were faster than last years time of 6:57,685 minutes,” the video caption claims.
A Ford spokesperson refused to confirm or deny to American Cars And Racing that the car in the video was there for a record run.

“We have said we would go back to the Nürburgring because we know there’s more left in the car. We don’t have any news to share at this time,” they replied.
The Mustang GTD is inspired by Ford’s GT3 racing cars and it considers it a direct competitor to the Porsche 911 GT3. Porsche managed a 6:55.34 lap with a standard 911 GT3, but did a 6:44.848 lap with a 911 GT3 RS, while a 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit hold’s the brand’s record at 6:38.835. The overall production car record belongs to the $2.7 million Mercedes-AMG ONE at 6:29.090.
Ford might be feeling more pressure from a rival closer to home. The 2025 Corvette ZR1 that goes on sale soon has 1,064 hp and a top speed of 233 mph. It’s been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, but there is yet to be any official or unofficial news of its best time around the track.
