Chevrolet is bringing back the Camaro as a four-door next year and now there’s a new four-door Pontiac Firebird Trans Am to go with it.
Not really, but the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse revealed this week in Le Mans, France, bears an eerie resemblance to the iconic 1977-1981 muscle car.
The M Concept previews a future electric M3 and it features a new take on BMW’s split kidney grille idea, which is something it shared with Pontiac over the years, so perhaps things have come full circle.
The updated version combines the headlights and grille elements into two units split by a V that makes them look like like a bird of prey’s peering eyes, just like the Firebird Trans Am’s.

It also has coke-bottle sides and its horizontal taillights and ducktail spoiler strongly recall Pontiac’s style.

The interior isn’t retro, but you could argue that its fully digital treatment hearkens back to the 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am also known as KITT from the TV show Knight Rider.

The production version of the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse will be far more powerful than any Firebird Trans Am, as its all-wheel drive system is expected to be rated close to 1,000 hp.
No one expects the yet to be revealed four-door Camaro to be that potent, but you never know, considering the Corvette ZR1 has a 1,064 hp V8. The Camaro is more likely to launch with a version of the new 535 hp 6.7-liter V8 that was revealed with the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport.

As for the hopes of a revived Firebird Trans Am, while we don’t think General Motors is working on one, Trans Am Worldwide used to convert fifth and sixth generation Camaros into Firebird Trans Am lookalikes, so perhaps it will do the same with the new one Or the BMW.
