Chandler Smith Wins Daytona NASCAR Truck Series Race With Last Lap Surge

NASCAR Truck Series at Daytona

Front Row Motorsports driver Chandler Smith didn’t start the Fresh From Florida 250 on the front row, but he finished first.

Smith was in sixth in turn 3 of the final lap in overtime as the trucks in front of him got out of shape and lost momentum, opening the door for him to make a move.

With a push from pole-sitter and fellow Ford driver Ty Majeski coming out of Turn 4, Smith dove to the inside and got to the front on the final stretch to pull ahead for the win.

The win was Smith’s first at Daytona and eighth of his Truck Series career.

“Ty Majeski, debatably one of my best Ford teammates, he is all credit to how we just won that race, truthfully,” Smith said during his front stretch interview.

Smith was followed by Giovanni Ruggiero, Christian Eckes, Majeski and John Hunter Nemechek, who had the lead coming out of Turn 4 on the final lap.

Brenden Queen came home in seventh as the highest finisher among the new Kaulig Racing Ram team, with teammates Daniel Dye in 17th, Mini Tyrrell in 19th and Justin Haley in 22nd.

Ram driver Tony Stewart was scored 36th, but was wrecked out of the scheduled 100-lap race on lap 35.
