Is The 1,564 HP Yenko Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray A ZR1X-Killer?

Stage III YENKO/SC Twin Turbocharged C8 Corvette E-Ray

The 1,250 hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is the most powerful production car Chevrolet has ever built, but some people just gotta have more.

Enter Specialty Vehicle Engineering, or SVE. The New Jersey-based tuning house cranks out some wild GM products and owns the rights to the legendary Yenko name. It uses it on its top creations and the latest is the top of the heap.

The Stage III Yenko/SC Twin Turbocharged C8 Corvette E-Ray is a mouthful, but it comes with enough goodies to justify the lengthy name.

SVE rips out the standard 655 hp Corvette E-Ray hybrid’s 495 hp 6.2-liter V8 and rebuilds it with a forged steel crankshaft and H-beam rods; forged aluminum pistons; high-flow cylinder heads and a new camshaft; n intercooled intake manifold; valve covers with integrated oil separators; a pair of Garrett 58mm ceramic turbochargers with water-cooled waste gates; high and low pressure fuel systems; and a flex fuel conversion compatible with fuels from 91 octane E10 to E85.

When its burning ethanol the total system output rises to 1,564 hp, more than double the E-Ray’s stock rating. SVE upgrades the Corvette E-Ray’s eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to handle the extra power, which gets to the ground via a set of forged and CNC-machined lightweight 20” x 10” front and 21” x 13” rear wheels.

SVE includes plenty of Yenko graphics and badges, including one with the vehicle’s build number, which will be limited to 50. A list of additional appearance features and a high-flow exhaust system are also availble.

SVE is coy about the performance of its vehicles, but it’s pretty clear this will be a lot quicker than the factory E-Ray, if not the ZR1X, which also gets plenty of handling improvements that are engineered in-house by Chevrolet to make it a better all-around performance vehicle.

While a base ZR1X lists for $212,195, SVE’s build is $139,995 plus the price of a Corvette E-Ray, which starts at $111,095, so call it $251,090 all-in. Good luck finding a base ZR1X, or even one without a huge markup on it, though.

If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable with more cargo room and can live with 1,000 hp, SVE has another Yenko you might want to check out.

(SVE)

It sells a two-door regular cab Yenko/SC Silverado 1500 with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and a six-speed manual transmission for $89,995 on top of the price of the truck, which gets it to around $130,000, depending on options. It can definitely haul. Two different ways.
