Scout Motors has updated its launch plan with a new timeline and model cadence.
The VW Group-owned startup electric truck company said in a blog post that the first model built will be the Traveler SUV equipped with the Harvester range-extending gas motor, which is currently accounting for 85% of reservations.
Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 with the first deliveries expected in 2028, although the timeline remains subject to change. Terra pickup production is planned to begin sometime in 2028.
The timeline has shifted a bit later than what was originally expected when the vehicles were unveiled in 2024.
The all-electric Terra and Traveler are being designed with a maximum all-electric range of 350 miles, while the rear-mounted four-cylinder Harvester engine adds range by working as a generator that can be refilled in a few minutes at a gas station between long stops to charge the battery. Harvester models have a smaller battery with 150 miles of range and a tank big enough for 350 miles of driving between fill-ups.

The off-road trucks will be built at a new factory in South Carolina and Scout is targeting a starting price of less than $60,000, although it hasn’t yet clarified how much Harvester-equipped models will be.
Scout’s Vice President of Strategy and Brand, Ryan Decker, was on a recent episode of The GAS podcast and said that the first validation builds will be taking place at the factory in 2026.

The Terra is a size larger than the Rivian R1S, but only has two rows of seating. However, it will be offered with a three-across front bench seat. It is also unique in the electric truck segment by using a solid rear axle for maximum off-road capability.
