The Subaru Forester Hybrid that debuted for 2025 is getting a high-riding makeover. The Forester Wilderness Hybrid revealed at the New York International Auto Show combines the compact SUV’s most capable off-road trim with its most efficient powertrain.
It carries over the 194 hp all-wheel-drive setup and combines it with the Wilderness upgrades, which include 9.3 inches of ground clearance, Yokohama Geolandar AT tires and a revised suspension.
It also features a roof rack rated for 220 pounds on the move and 800 pounds when the vehicle is parked, so it can support a large tent with several people in it. The interior features water-resistant upholstery, all-whether floor mats and plenty of the Wilderness trim’s signature copper accents. An 11-s[eaker Harman Kardon audio system with a 576-watt equivalent amplifier is standard along with Subaru’s EyeSight package of electronic driver aids.

Fuel economy figures haven’t been finalized. The regular Forester Hybrid is rated at 35 mpg combined, but the added friction and aerodynamic drag from the tires and increased ride height will likely chip into that by a few mpg. Pricing will be announced closer to when production begins late this year at Subaru’s Indiana factory.
